They’re Back – UFO’s in Southern New England

New England isn’t known as a hotbed of UFO activity, but we’ve had our moments. Actually, John Winthrop, governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony reported our country’s first sighting in 1639. And in 1961 America had its first reported abduction case in Exeter, New Hampshire. That’s the famous Betty and Barney Hill encounter. Again, in 1967, Betty Andreasson (now Luca) was abducted from her home in South Ashburnham, MA.

There have been numerous sightings and close encounters throughout MA, CT, and RI just about every year since records started being kept, but over the last few years those events have been on the increase.

According to NUFORC, in the first five months of 2020 MA has reported 29 sightings, CT comes in with 24, and RI has had 9. NUFORC is the National UFO Reporting Center established by Director Peter Davenport in Davenport WA. There’s a wealth of information at his site: nuforc.org There could also be more people who have witnessed strange things in the skies, but never filed a report.

It’s amazing what you can see if you look up occasionally. And, it doesn’t have to be dark to observe anomalies. It’s like ghosts. If a place is haunted – it’s haunted during the daytime, too.

For instance, on 24 May this year I went out back to check on the chickens. It was about 7 p.m. and sunny. I happened to look up over the barn and saw this large-ish bright white thing that looked like it was floating. It was cigar-shaped and had no wings, no tail, no lights, and didn’t make a sound. It was moving from southwest to northeast and it was taking its time going anywhere. A small plane would have moved faster and I would have heard it.

I watched this thing for three or four minutes when it got to a bunch of trees on the mountain and my view was blocked. I waited for it to re-appear further down the skyline, but it didn’t. For me, it was just gone. I have no idea what it was and have never seen anything like it before. It could have a good explanation, but I don’t know what it is.

More and more people are coming forward with information on aerial phenomena they’ve witnessed. You can find a plethora of videos, stories, and other means of what could be evidence on social media, youtube, and other information outlets. In April of this year the Pentagon released videos of UFOs encountered by our military. They’re unknown. Until recently the government has debunked and denied the existence of anything related to UFOs. Why not now? What’s up?

There’s too much mounting information and perhaps evidence being made public to continue denying the existence of something else, or someone else. Some of these things could be ours. Some could be hoaxes, but this is an issue that affects all people everywhere. An explanation needs to be given. If no one has an answer then it’s time we find out just what and/or who it is. If facts stay obscure and truth isn’t exercised in policies regarding UFOs – no one wins.

Bigfoot

Bigfoot, also known as Yeti, the Abominable Snowman, and Sasquatch, has been a legend for a long time. Some Asian records go back to the 200’s B.C.E. North American lore about the creature is still in its infancy compared to that of the peoples of the Himalayas, India, and Russia, but the phenomenon is alive, well, and active.

One of the first sightings of Bigfoot in North America took place in 1811 by British-Canadian explorer, surveyor, and fur trader, David Thompson. Thompson traveled all over Canada plying his trade. On one of his trips along the Snake and Columbia Rivers in British Columbia he spotted something moving he couldn’t identify. He felt the animal was seven to 10 feet tall and weighed in around 400 pounds. Thompson considered that it could be a bear because they do walk upright at times, except the number of toes in the large print left behind weren’t consistent with a bear.

On another trip around Jasper in Alberta, Thompson came across another large footprint in the snow. This track was 14 inches long, eight inches wide, and had four large toes – each one measuring about four inches long. He didn’t think this was consistent with a bear marking, either.

Many stories about Bigfoot have been generated throughout Canada and the United States since that time and whatever the real story is, it won’t be going away anytime soon. Bigfoot is one of my least favorite cryptids, but if it’s real, I do admire its ability to be elusive to capture and examination by those people who seem to think they are somehow smarter and better.

There are multiple TV shows now featuring idiots armed with guns and other weapons going out to find and kill this being that no-one really understands….if indeed, it exists. I don’t like these programs, but do have to say that they, at least, depict our society in a realistic way. Which seems to indicate that if something is different from us it should be killed and carried home as a trophy. Isn’t that how we think of primitive humankind? Seems we haven’t changed much. Ignorance takes precedence!

That being said, there are many people who are genuinely interested in the Bigfoot phenomenon and would just like to study it and find out what it is really all about. According to Bigfoot Field Researchers Org., (bfro.net), to date Massachusetts has had 35 sightings of the tall hairy man followed by Connecticut with 17 and Rhode Island with five.

There are a couple of other theories, also. It seems Bigfoot seems to be seen quite often in conjunction with UFO sightings. Could the two be related? This is a large complex Universe we live in and I think anything is possible. We know very little about all the many aspects of existence and if one isn’t egocentric, a plethora of possibilities exist.

There’s also the other thought that Bigfoot comes from another dimension through a wormhole and can blink in and out at will. That would make this creature very intelligent. We, as a people, haven’t even found a wormhole yet.

Regardless of whether Bigfoot is real or not, the lore and legend of this being will always exist. If Bigfoot is found and proved by DNA not to be something foreign, there will always be those who don’t believe that evidence. And, if Bigfoot is found and DNA proves it is something that is alien to our earth, there will always be those who don’t believe that, either.

I hope that Bigfoot is a species all to itself. This enigma opens minds to posit different thoughts and create theories only limited by one’s imagination. That’s a good thing.

A Cigar-Shaped Craft

Stafford  isn’t far from Bradley Field in CT, so air traffic is a fairly frequent occurrence.  But one afternoon in late November 2017, it wasn’t a Boeing or an Airbus that made an appearance.  While sitting in a shopping center parking lot, waiting for her husband, a woman saw a large, cigar-shaped, metallic craft emerge from the Northeast.  There were no apparent wings or tail structure.  The object was drifting rather low above tree level and didn’t make any noise.   She looked around the parking lot to see if anyone else was noticing it, but anyone who was outside seemed focused on their shopping bags, vehicles, and/or cell phones.

She continued to watch the craft’s trajectory toward the Southwest.  It continued on and went behind a stand of tall trees and out of sight.  She kept watching, expecting it to re-emerge from the other side of the copse, but that didn’t happen.  The object never re-appeared.  There was no apparent place it could have landed and there wasn’t any kind of a crash anywhere.  It simply vanished.

I have neither heard nor read about any other account of this sighting.  I did check on Peter Davenport’s National UFO Reporting Center website, (nuforc.org), in the state of Washington and found eight UFO reports for central MA and six UFO reports for northern CT within a week or so of this sighting, but found nothing from the Stafford area.

How many people look up a lot these days to gaze at the stars, watch the clouds, or even take in a beautiful sunset?  Ancient peoples studied the heavens to determine and plan their cycles of life.   In the twenty-first century, people study the horizon of their cell phones, glued to mundane messages that don’t foretell much past the next few coming hours.    We miss so much and don’t seem to care if we are in touch with our greater universal existence or not.

A UFO??

A few nights ago, after quite a hot day, we went outside to sit under the stars and enjoy the coolness of the evening.  We live in Stafford Springs, CT and there isn’t a lot of light pollution here to obscure the night sky’s vista.  There were a few planes going over here and there and a lot of lightening bugs signaling in hopes of finding a mate.

Suddenly my son-in-law said, “What is that – right up there?”  pointing to the South-Southeast.  There was a bright circular light about the size of a large star traveling in a straight line toward the North-Northwest.  It didn’t twinkle as a star does and it didn’t have any blinking lights that would indicate it was some sort of airplane.  We wondered if it could be some kind of satellite.

As it got right overhead from where we were sitting, or more accurately now standing, it stopped.  It stayed stationary.  The object didn’t move for maybe four or five minutes.  It then got darker and almost disappeared.  Just as quickly, it got very bright.  It moved forward again, maybe another degree, and stopped once more.  The darkening and re-brightening process repeated.  The object stayed still for another few minutes before continuing on its path until it just vanished.

We haven’t seen it again since, but will keep looking to see if anything else happens.  I wonder if anyone else noticed anything unusual?

October Mountain Mystery

This is an experience I had years ago while living in a different town.

About 5 miles from where I was living, in Western Massachusetts, there is a state forest that covers roughly 16,500 acres[1]. I had been told by numerous people it was a bizarre place, so a friend and I decided to go for a hike around an old Boy Scout camp that used to be there[2] next to Felton Lake. Being curious we hiked around for a while and found it. The camp no longer existed because someone had burned it down at one time or another. We had decided to hang out by the lake and look around for a while. When it became late afternoon we realized it was time to leave if we were to get out of the woods before dark.

After a while, as we were hiking back, we started hearing these grunting sounds. They seemed to be coming from quite a ways away from us. The first thing we thought was that it was a bear and so we picked up our pace. The noise seemed to pick up pace with us,although it still sounded to be a distance away.

As the sun went down and it got closer to dark the grunts seemed to get closer to us and started to come from different spots. It was as if something was communicating, as strange as that sounds.

When we got out of the forest and back onto the road I looked back and saw these eyes looking out at us. I swear they seemed to be 6 or 7 feet off the ground!

We were freaked out to say the least and got the hell away from there as fast as we possibly could. I haven’t been back there since for obvious reasons. Now, many years later I want to go back with our paranormal group and maybe get some answers to what I saw, as well as the things that have been reported by other people. Over the years spirits have been reported near a long abandoned cemetery and along the path that leads to it. UFOs have also been seen in the area.

Felton Lake is in October Mountain State Forest. It consists of several parcels of land located in Becket, Lee, Washington, and Lenox, MA. It is the largest State Forest in Massachusetts. (www.mass.gov)

Reported sightings include anthropoid creatures, like Bigfoot, mysterious lights, and a ghost girl in the abandoned 1800’s cemetery.

UFO’s or Just Weird?

I think this Universe is far too large for us to be alone, but I don’t know that I believe in beings flying around in spaceships en route to visit Earth.  Although one of the many theories I’ve contemplated is that we are the Martians.  There are so many theories to think about and investigate that all have merit, but that’s for another time.  Strange things do happen and many phenomena have been observed that defy reasonable explanation and have for thousands of years.

Many years ago, I went to a conference in Hartford CT for my employer.  The event concluded around 10:30 p.m.  I got on I-95 and started heading North towards home.  Thankfully, there wasn’t much traffic.  About six miles from the Springfield MA exit there was a large light in the sky moving from East to West at quite a clip.  Since Bradley Airport isn’t far away, I didn’t think much about it.  But, the light suddenly turned rapidly and started heading back toward the East.  This isn’t a maneuver typical of aircraft that I’m familiar with.  The light also got larger.

Next thing I know it was about two hours later and I found myself driving South on I-95 and heading back toward Hartford.  No – I didn’t drink at the seminar and I have no other recollection of anything.  0vertired?  Brain lapse?  Missing time?  I don’t know.

Then not long ago, I thought I was asleep and maybe I was.  But there was another brilliant light.  Nothing else was there, just this very large light.  Next thing, I find myself in this darkened round place looking out through a huge window at the star-filled night sky.  It was beautiful.  There were others around.  I could hear them talking and they spoke to me.  I never saw any of them though.  They told me I was going to travel out into space.  This was getting a bit scary – especially being, not a little, afraid of heights.  They put some sort of helmet on me and strapped me onto this small machine-like thing.  It was all open; there were no enclosures. Then this seat thing started to move toward that window.  The window didn’t open and I thought for sure I would crash right into it.  Instead,  I moved through it easily.  I could look down and see lights coming up from Earth – cities perhaps.  And the stars were fantastic.  The whole trip was amazing.

Next thing I knew, I was sitting up in bed thinking that was one heck of a dream.  It was like it was real and it was very vivid.  Still is.

So, what are these lights?  Many people have all kinds of experiences with various kinds of lights in different situations.  Perhaps it’s a natural energy that we need to study and learn more about.  Or maybe visitors bring it with them.  Or maybe it’s something from the other side of this existence we call being alive.  Whatever it is, I’d really like to know more about it.

Unidentified Flying Object and Missing Time

I don’t know what it was, but it was strange.

One spring night in the early 1960’s we were returning home from an evening of dance roller skating in Suffield, CT.  (Remember when they still used to dance on skates?)

We lived out in the sticks on a dirt road in the corner of Northampton, Easthampton, and Westhampton, MA.  It had been a warm evening and the moon was full.  The sky was clear and full of stars.

Halfway down the road, my mother, who was driving, said, “Oh my goodness!  What is that?”  and pointed to the sky.

There above the tree-line was a huge round something that was glowing in a swirl of white, grey, and purple.  I know the thing was much closer, but in relation to the full moon it looked to be three or four times its size.  It didn’t make any noise and it didn’t move.  It just stayed there and hung in the sky.

All of a sudden the wind came up and the trees were bending in the gusts that were blowing around us.  Even the dirt on the road was spiraling like small dust devils. Then some small trees that lined the lane blew down in front of the car.

We sat there looking first at each other then at the sky.  The thing was still there.  We wanted to leave and make it the next quarter of a mile to our house.  But, neither one of us wanted to get out of the car to move the downed trees out of the way.

Next I knew my mom opened the door and said, “I’ve got to go do it.” and went to the front of the car to start dragging the trees out of the way.  I couldn’t let her do it alone so got out too.

I don’t remember moving trees and  brush from in front of the car.  And I don’t remember getting back into the vehicle.  There is no memory for anything that may have happened during that time.

The last thing that I recall was being seated inside the car still looking at the sky and watching the thing take off – straight up and disappearing in seconds.

When we arrived home it was three hours later than we should have gotten there.

Strange Humming and Electrical Phenomena

Here are some more strange occurrences that I experienced at my grandparents home one summer.

When I was 9-10 years old I loved to explore in the woods. I never wandered too far from whomevers home I happened to be at, maybe 1/4 mile or so at the most. One day I became aware of this humming sound that increased the further from the house I got until a certain distance where it maintained the same level and vibration; it never varied in any way. I walked all over there at different times during the summer and It was the same thing in all directions.

One night that same summer my grandparents were watching tv and I was in bed. We all heard their car start. Now, my bedroom faced the driveway so it only took me a few seconds to get to the window and look down. No one was there and the yard was large and open, so there was no place to have hidden. My grandfather went out to the car and shut it off. The next day the adults were talking and I heard my grandfather say he had to put in his key, turn it to the on position, and then off again to shut the car off.

As these experiences occurred in a rural area, removed from inner city miscreants, high-tension power lines, and commercial electrical hubs, one might be inclined to consider the possibility of extra-terrestrial or other dimensional involvement in these experiences.
